We have all witnessed the effects of Alberta’s last recession and the impact it has had on our families, friends, neighbours, and our communities as a whole. In Calgary and the surrounding area, the current economic climate has increased the demand for social services and put a strain on existing resources.
There is a need for new ideas, approaches, services, and relationships to overcome growing societal challenges.
The Social Impact Lab is United Way of Calgary and Area’s response to both the increased demand within the social sector and the shifting perspectives of philanthropists and business leaders who want to create social change in the communities they live and work in.
The Lab is a place for people who want to learn how to solve complex problems with creativity, empathy, and rapid experimentation techniques. It’s a gathering space where agency partners, government, donors, businesses, members from the public sector, and corporate volunteers can come together and address complex social issues.
The Lab runs experiments that focus on searching for new solutions, not already in the market, that have the potential to create meaningful social change. The experiences and key learnings from the Lab will equip corporations and nonprofits with the tools and mindsets required to generate new kinds of social and economic impact for our city.
It’s a new way of solving complex issues and we want you to be a part of it.
