What makes a company a leader in philanthropy?

In Calgary, WorleyParsons is showing how it’s done. The company has supported United Way of Calgary and Area for more than 30 years – and still wanted to take it to the next level. In 2010, WorleyParsons started sponsoring United Way’s Leadership Giving program, which gives community-minded leaders the opportunity to be part of the solution to our city’s complex social issues.

The company also runs an impressive United Way workplace campaign, with a mix of employee education opportunities and fun events (including a very competitive tricycle race).

We asked them about why they do what they do.

  1. Tell us why WorleyParsons gives back right here in Calgary.

 We believe that giving back to the community in which we live is a core value within WorleyParsons. Supporting United Way aligns with the company’s moral compass. 

  1. What’s the importance of the Leadership Giving Program to WorleyParsons? 

Leadership giving is of prime importance. We realize that our Leaders form the backbone of our United Way program.  We’re fortunate to have such a great group of Leaders that buy into our culture of giving back to the communities in which we live. 

  1. How does it impact your staff knowing they work for an organization that gives back in such a big way?

 Knowing that we give back to our community in a significant way gives our employees a real sense of pride.  We visibly see our pride come through in our other community support initiatives through our employees’ continued donation of time, talent and treasure.
