The CORE’s annual ’Twas the Night event is November 27. As one of the recipient charities, United Way’s BeCause initiative will be at the event with a photo booth and some of our amazing volunteers. We thought we’d catch up with BeCause co-chair Megan Marshall for a quick peak at what to expect at tomorrow’s event.
Why did you get involved with BeCause and United Way?
I’ve always believed in the importance of being connected to and involved in my community, and I’m inspired by the extraordinary impact that can be made from ordinary people taking collective action. For the past three years I’ve been involved with BeCause to help encourage the next generation of Calgarians to understand social issues and actively participate in creating positive change in our city.
What can people expect at ’Twas the Night?
This is the 3rd year BeCause has been involved with ’Twas the Night and each year it has been bigger and better. The evening has something for everyone – shopping, music, food/drinks, and holiday festivities, like the lighting of a 45 ft. indoor Christmas tree!
What makes it unique?
I’d describe ’Twas the Night as a shopping event with charitable flair and holiday cheer. People will leave feeling relieved – from finishing their holiday shopping in one night (and with great deals) – and rewarded from supporting many great charity beneficiaries. After all, doesn’t the greater pleasure in life lie in the art of giving rather than receiving?
How can people give back and help their city through the event?
Easy! Spread the word about the event, attend with a friend (or friends!), and bring a small cash donation in support of 5 great Calgary charities: BeCause, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Alzheimer Society of Calgary, National Music Centre and Pet Access League Society (PALS). The suggested donation is $15, and all donations will be accepted at the door.
See you there!
