An anti-bullying poem to change your life

If you think back far enough, you can likely remember being taunted, mocked and bullied at some point in life. Some of us are fortunate to have this experience as a distant memory, a dull ache buried in the past. For others it’s a current and cruel reality from which there is seemingly no escape.

But regardless of whether your alienation is past or present, B.C. poet Shane Koyczan has a message for you: you are not alone, you are loveable and you are beautiful. (You may remember Koyczan from the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, where he wowed the world with his poem “We Are More.”)

Watch Koyczan’s new poem “To This Day,” and you’ll quickly understand why this viral video is resonating so widely.

(And yeah, it’s OK to shed a tear or two as you watch.)
