Tyler Weninger is, by his own account, an ordinary kid from an ordinary family.
At 11 years old, however, this ordinary Grade 6 student is doing something extraordinary. He’s aiming to raise $5,000 for United Way to feed hungry children in our city.
United Way focuses on making long-term social change in Calgary, but immediate needs remain and call for a response. It bothers Tyler that more than 20,000 children in the Calgary area go to school hungry each day.
“This is sad,” says the budding philanthropist.
“Children can’t be expected to learn or pay attention in school if they’re always hungry.”
Tyler visited United Way earlier this month to share details of his mission, and report on his progress so far.
